Kit Built Vehicles
A kit-built vehicle is one where all the parts are supplied new by the manufacturer or can be built from a mix of parts supplied new by the manufacturer and other parts sourced elsewhere.
This qualifies either for a year of registration plate (VRN) and will typically have a manufacturer-supplied VIN or a DVLA generated VIN by application and a Q registration plate.

Kit Built Vehicles - Single Origin & New
A kit-built vehicle is one where all the parts are supplied new by the manufacturer. Up to one other reconditioned component to ‘as new’ condition may be included. It can be bought manufacturer assembled or assembled elsewhere.
To receive a current VRN the application will require you to furnish applicable receipts & the Certificate of Newness from the manufacturer.
Requires you to complete form V55/4 (see user guide 355/4)
You must include the following with your application:
Form V627/1 - ‘Built up vehicle inspection report’
Evidence of type approval
Official receipts for the vehicle and any parts used
Build plans
Evidence that any ‘reconditioned’ part is to an ‘as new’ standard

Kit Built Vehicles - Mixed Origin & Ages
Composed of a mix of parts, some supplied new by the kit manufacturer.
It will include other parts may be from multiple sources and that can be either new or restored.
Requires you to complete form V55/5
You must include the following with your application:
Form V627/1 - ‘Built up vehicle inspection report’
Evidence of type approval
Official receipts for the vehicle and any parts used
Build plans
Evidence that any ‘reconditioned’ part is to an ‘as new’ standard
